The Goldsmiths' Centre and Anti Copying in Design (ACID) join forces in new partnership

The Goldsmiths’ Centre and Anti Copying in Design (ACID) have recently formalised their relationship as Partners to lend their support for the professional training of goldsmiths on intellectual property matters. This new partnership will provide support for emerging and established goldsmiths with those interested in jewellery, silversmithing and the allied industries.

To celebrate this unique partnership ACID is holding its first Intellectual Property Masterclass on 8 November which has been specially designed for designer/makers to help them create a proactive intellectual property strategy.  ACID is the leading UK and IP membership and campaigning body committed to raising awareness and encouraging respect for IP and the pillars of the organisation are education and awareness, prevention, deterrence and support.

Dids Macdonald, OBE, CEO of ACID said, “The team at ACID are thrilled to have established this special partnership so that intellectual property education is more accessible and, following the IP Masterclass, we will be working closely with the Goldsmiths’ Centre to provide IP related articles, tips and guidance and further IP surgeries for the benefit of all involved in this sector.”

Chris Oliver, Head of Professional Training at the Goldsmiths’ Centre said, “In a design-led industry operating in an increasingly global marketplace, infringement of intellectual property rights is becoming more common. We are delighted to be working in partnership with ACID to raise awareness, education, and action on this important issue for our industry."

About the ACID IP Masterclass

Intellectual Property is a critical asset, and the lifeblood running through most successful jewellery brands, designers and freelancers. But how many of us really understand what IP is, how to protect ourselves, or what to do if someone infringes our rights? Stories about designs or images being ‘ripped off’ online seem quite common, but what would we do if it happened to us?

In this IP workshop, ACID, the UK’s leading membership and campaigning organisation for design & intellectual property, will guide you through the various IP rights, provide you with tools of self-help to reduce the chances of your rights being infringed, and help you by providing practical steps if your IP rights are infringed. Helping you with the basics to create your own pro-active IP strategy is one of the main objectives of the session.
