The Goldsmiths’ Centre’s new “Getting Started: Stars in the Making 2021-22” showcase spotlights early career makers

Fourteen early career makers in jewellery and silversmithing will be put in the spotlight as part of the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s new “Getting Started: Stars in the Making 2021-22” showcase.

Free to visit, their exciting, fresh and innovative work will be on display in the venue’s atrium space weekdays from 12 January until 1 April 2022.

The showcase will stage some of the best newcomers to the industry, allowing these talented jewellers and silversmiths to demonstrate their potential, gain invaluable showcasing experience and exposure for their work amongst the wider industry and future customers:

  • Deborah Beck
  • Isla Cruickshank
  • Alice Fry
  • Agata Karwowska
  • Catherine Marche
  • Lisa Mortimer
  • Sarah Murdoch
  • Margo Orlorik
  • Georgie Orme-Brown
  • Genevieve Schwartz
  • Darren Sherwood
  • Kristina Smith
  • Ruby Taglight
  • Kelda Young

All fourteen early career makers took part in the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s one-week introduction to business course, Getting Started Online 2021. They applied for the ‘Stars in the Making initiative, which included further business skills training, through an anonymous and careful selection process overseen by guest judges, communications specialist Nyasha Daley and Journalist, Founder of the Jewellery Cut, Rachael Taylor.

Fine jeweller Georgie Orme-Brown explains why being selected as an early career maker for the Stars in the Making initiative has been a vital next step for her business:

“I believe that I have reached a point in the development of my business where I am ready to put myself and my work out there! The week of Getting Started Online 2021 seminars cemented my vision for my business and the further training and promotion of Spotlighting has been the perfect next step in my development. I am starting an exciting new chapter and I hope to make the most of the ‘relaunch’ of my brand name,’Orme-Brown’, by maximising my marketing skills and continuing my Getting Started journey”

The Goldsmiths’ Centre supports creative and talented emerging makers offering a platform to thrive, connect and collectively grow their skills and businesses. Last year the charity initiated new programmes for early career makers in recognition of the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on the marketplace and early career opportunities.

This exhibition is free to attend and open Monday to Friday, 9am – 6pm, in the Atrium of the Goldsmiths’ Centre at 42 Britton Street, EC1M 5AD. A 3-minute walk from Farringdon station.
