Free Info Sessions with Former Participants Misha McLean & Morvarid Alavifard Introduce Getting Started Online Course
The Goldsmiths’ Centre, the UK's national centre of excellence for learning, innovation and enterprise in the jewellery and silversmithing industries, is hosting two free online information sessions featuring former Getting Started Online and Shine participants jeweller Misha McLean and multi-disciplinary artist and silversmith Morvarid Alavifard on 18 November and 2 December 2026. The sessions offer aspiring UK-based jewellery and silversmithing entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn first-hand about the Getting Started Online introduction to business course, ahead of the application deadline on 5 January 2027.
The live Q&A sessions will provide prospective applicants with insights into the course, its benefits and the opportunities available to participants, alongside practical advice on submitting a successful application. Taking place on Wednesday 18 November 2026, from 1pm to 1.30pm, and on Wednesday 2 December 2026, from 6.30pm to 7pm, both sessions will offer attendees the chance to speak directly with the Goldsmiths’ Centre team and former participants, explore the business skills covered during the course, find out about further opportunities and ask questions about eligibility, the application process and the support available.
The free, one-week intensive business course will run online from Monday 1 to Friday 5 March 2027, supporting more than 100 UK-based designers, designer makers and skilled craftspeople who are aspiring to establish, or have recently launched, a jewellery or silversmithing business. Delivered through live webinars, Getting Started Online provides practical business skills and industry insights from leading experts. Participants will explore essential topics including starting and running a creative business, developing products, branding and selling their work, unlocking sales channels and taking the next steps towards business growth.
Established in 1981, Getting Started Online has supported generations of jewellery and silversmithing professionals in developing their businesses and careers. Alongside industry-specific training and opportunities to connect with peers, the course provides a gateway to further support through the Goldsmiths’ Centre, including opportunities to exhibit work and build a professional profile through Spotlighting Getting Started, a follow-on business skills training programme.
Applications for Getting Started Online close on Tuesday 5 January 2027 at 5pm. The course is free for successful applicants and is open to eligible UK-based designers, designer makers, silversmiths and skilled craftspeople who are looking to establish or develop a start-up business in the jewellery and silversmithing industry.
