Director Peter Taylor MBE Honoured with Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award at UK Jewellery Awards 2025
We are proud to announce that Peter Taylor MBE, Director of The Goldsmiths’ Centre, has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award at the UK Jewellery Awards 2025. This prestigious recognition, presented by Retail Jeweller at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 25 June, celebrates Peter’s extraordinary dedication to the jewellery industry over more than three decades.
As the founding Director of the Goldsmiths’ Centre, Peter has been instrumental in building a home for creativity, craftsmanship and community. His vision and commitment have shaped one of the UK’s leading institutions for training and supporting jewellers, silversmiths and allied craftspeople.
Reflecting on the award, Peter said:
“Anyone who knows me will know that I do not enjoy public speaking, so looking out across this room fills me with dread — so I’ll keep this simple. I didn’t set out chasing accolades. My aim was to make sure knowledge wasn’t lost between generations. If I’ve helped even a few people to start their own journey in the craft and industry, then I’ve done what I set out to do.”
Peter began his career in the trade at just 17, going on to contribute to innovation and growth in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter before joining the Goldsmiths’ Company in 2002 as the first Director of Technology and Training, playing a key role in founding the Goldsmiths’ Centre. His tireless efforts have empowered hundreds of craftspeople and designers through access to world-class training, mentorship and professional development.
Known for his quiet but powerful leadership, Peter has consistently championed the values of collaboration, excellence and accessibility in the jewellery sector. His work continues to resonate at every level of the trade - from the newest apprentice to the most seasoned master.
Ruth Faulkner, Managing Editor of Retail Jeweller, commented:
“Peter’s legacy is not just institutional, it’s personal. It lives on in every career he has helped shape and every life he has touched through mentorship, support and vision.”
This award is the highest honour presented at the UK Jewellery Awards - the industry’s longest running and most respected trade event, now in its 33rd year.
We at the Goldsmiths’ Centre are incredibly proud of Peter’s achievements and deeply grateful for his leadership. His work continues to shape the future of the jewellery industry for generations to come.
