How are medals an ideal medium for artistic expression and storytelling? What materials and processes go into creating art medals? How has the medal evolved as a form, and what does its future look like in contemporary artistic practice?
Join artist Linda Crook for an inspiring talk exploring the rich narrative world of the art medal. Linda’s work spans mythology, portraiture, and autobiographical themes, creating small-scale artworks that hold powerful stories.
In this talk, Linda will reflect on her background and artistic training, offering insight into the experiences that have shaped her practice. She will discuss the inspirations behind a selection of her medal-based commissions and projects, revealing how personal symbolism, mythic references, and portraiture come together in her work. Discover the tools and processes Linda uses to create her medals and gain a better understanding of the broader legacy of the art medal and its enduring cultural meaning.
This event is held in collaboration with the British Art Medal Society (BAMS) and is supported by the Goldsmiths’ Centre. BAMS, a registered charity, was founded in 1982 to promote the art of the medal through commissions, exhibitions, publications and events. Their latest publication, ‘Making Modern Art Medals’ is available to purchase in our online shop.

We run our events in person at the Goldsmiths’ Centre and online, so that as many of our community as possible can exchange ideas, learn from industry experts, and form valuable connections across the UK. We do not record these events, or broadcast them, to encourage the open sharing of ideas and experiences and preserve confidentiality. Popular topics will be repeated over time.
We are committed to making our training programmes and events as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have any access requirements, please inform us as early as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements.
