Are you an aspiring-jeweller who wants to develop your making skills and refine your work's finish? Would you like to receive personalised feedback on a finished piece of jewellery you have made, to help you achieve excellence as you develop? Sit down with experienced jewellers and manufacturers for supportive, hands-on feedback to help you develop your work and grow your confidence.
This session is open to all makers - whether or not you’ve entered a competition before - and offers a chance to talk through your making process and get personalised tips from industry professionals. Bring one finished piece, talk through your making process, and get personalised tips to help you refine your finish, strengthen your technique and develop your eye for detail - whether you’re aiming for competitions, commissions, or simply raising your professional standard. Think of it as expert coaching, not a critique. You’ll leave with actionable insights, a clearer direction, and the confidence to take your making to the next level.
What is the format of the day?
Two small-group sessions will run in the afternoon, starting at 1pm and 3pm, with up to 9 makers in each. You’ll meet one-to-one with GC&DC industry experts Peter Crump, Robin Kyte and Steve Jinks for tailored feedback on your work. When you arrive, there will be a short introduction and you’ll be given a personalised schedule for your feedback slots. While you’re not in your one-to-ones, you can speak with GC&DC representatives about the Craft & Design Council Awards, or chat with the Goldsmiths’ Centre team about other training, events, and support available to emerging makers like you.
FAQs:
Our events are held both in person at the Goldsmiths’ Centre and online, allowing our community across the UK to connect, share ideas, and learn from industry experts. To encourage open, honest discussion and protect confidentiality, we do not routinely record or broadcast these sessions - unless they are being used specifically for teaching purposes. We regularly revisit popular topics, so there will be future opportunities to engage with them.
We are committed to making our training programmes and events as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have any access requirements, please inform us as early as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements. While we will do our best to accommodate your needs, advance notice is essential to ensure we can provide appropriate support.

Established in 1908, the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council has long championed excellence in design and making. Its annual competition celebrates innovation, mastery, and dedication to craft – recognising individuals and teams whose work represents the very best of our industry today.
"This year’s exhibition is a compelling reflection of the creative and technical brilliance that continues to drive our industry forward. From inspirational apprentice submissions to sophisticated works from seasoned professionals, the breadth and quality on display reinforces the GC&DC’s mission to encourage, stimulate and promote excellence in craftsmanship and design. We hope all who visit feel inspired to pursue and support these values in their own creative journeys."
— John Ball, Chair, Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council
Supported by a distinguished and longstanding group of Patrons and Sponsors – including the Goldsmiths’ Company, the Goldsmiths’ Centre, and Cartier – the 2024/25 Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards received over 550 entries from across the UK.
Spanning both 2D and 3D disciplines, each submission was assessed by an independent panel of industry specialists, who judged the work for its originality, technical excellence, design flair and craftsmanship. The result is a compelling showcase of the skill and creativity thriving within the jewellery, silversmithing and allied trades.
