‘Arts & Crafts’ design aimed to be beautiful, useful, and change the world for the better. Join this immersive workshop to explore the iconic design movement. The event combines a unique hands-on experience engaging with rare archival material from the Goldsmiths’ Company Library and Archive, followed by a guided tour of the renowned London Silver Vaults, where there will be an opportunity to handle a range of Arts & Crafts movement silver.

The workshop begins at the Goldsmiths’ Centre with the exploration of original archive material, including design drawings, workbooks, and workshop ephemera which reveal the ideas, techniques, and makers at the heart of the Arts & Crafts tradition. Staff from the Goldsmiths’ Company Library will introduce key themes and highlight notable artists and craft practices represented in the collection.

After taking inspiration from the archive material, the group will walk together to The London Silver Vaults hidden beneath Chancery Lane. Discover the largest selection of fine antique, modern and contemporary silverware for sale in the world with a guided tour of the vaults, which houses over 25 specialist dealers. The tour will be followed by an object handling session, offering a rare opportunity to closely examine pieces from the Arts & Crafts Movement and works inspired by it.

There will be a chance to draw, photograph and handle objects throughout the day.
