Wax carving is the art of manufacturing jewellery through duplicating a design made of wax in a precious metal. Led by professional diamond mounter and jeweller Paul Wilson, join our two-day short course, which will show you how to produce accurate and cost-effective wax models and prototypes.

What will I learn?

This course is designed to teach you how to shape and form detailed wax models by filing, cutting, frazing and carving. You will also be shown how to hollow out pieces to reduce weight, make repairs to damaged wax models and finish off waxes so they are ready for casting.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring your own basic tool kit to include:

  • Saw frame
  • Files
  • Needle files
  • Vernier gauge
  • Emery paper
  • Dividers,
  • Engraving tools

If you do have specific wax carving tools you are most welcome to bring them, but they are not compulsory.

Who is the tutor?

Paul Wilson is a classically trained diamond mounter and former Goldsmiths’ Company Apprentice, who trained for over 14 years at C A Treble. Today he is the Director of RockPAUL and specialises in diamond mounting, wax carving and polishing, working with London’s West End Companies on bespoke pieces to mass produced work and repairs.
