Omar Ramsden (1873–1939) was one of the most successful silversmiths of his generation, producing high quality silver which mixed the arts and crafts style with motifs from medieval and Tudor England – an approach that his clients found reassuring following the upheaval of the Great War.
Even the engraved motto on his pieces, OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT, (Latin for: 'Omar Ramsden made me'), referenced the makers of centuries past. The Goldsmiths’ Company’s Library and Archive holds 19 of Ramsden’s workbooks from the period 1921-1939, portfolios of his drawings, and boxes of his workshop contents, containing small artefacts that range from keys to patterns to sweet boxes.
Join the Library and Archive team to explore these collections and discover how Ramsden’s workshop operated and the creative process behind his pieces, which remain highly sought after as antiques.
There will be the opportunity to see, handle, photograph and draw a range of unique artefacts and archives from the collection.
