Goldsmiths’ Company apprentices learn the skills needed for a career in the jewellery, silversmithing and allied industries at the bench alongside experienced master craftspeople. This year the Apprentice to Masterpiece exhibition presents the ‘Masterpieces’ of six Goldsmiths’ Company apprentices who completed their apprenticeship in 2022/23.
For over 700 years, apprentices have marked the conclusion of their apprenticeship with a Freedom Ceremony at historic Goldsmiths’ Hall, where they must present their Masterpiece in order to become a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company. These intricate ‘Masterpieces’ demonstrate the range of skills learnt from their employers throughout their apprenticeships.
Join us this Summer to celebrate the next generation of goldsmiths, their employers and how the Goldsmiths’ Centre, an educational charity, plays a pivotal role in delivering today’s Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeship Scheme on behalf of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
The Apprentice to Masterpiece exhibition 2023 includes the Masterpieces created by:
- Martina Grumitt apprenticed to Mark Griffin (Griffin of London).
- Jordan Kippax apprenticed to Theo Fennell (Theo Fennell Ltd).
- Erin Munn apprenticed to Paul Munn (Munn Enamelling).
- Joel Quilley apprenticed to Stan Somerford (SVS Designs).
- Maddy Rowe apprenticed to David Marshall (The London Art Works Ltd).
- Maisie Sale apprenticed to Harriet Kelsall (Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design Ltd).
