Accidental connections, discussions and collaborations have been the starting point for many iconic designs, processes, materials and techniques. The studio provides an environment where people can meet, ask questions and find inspiration relevant to their industry.
A programme of workshops, talks and drop in sessions sits alongside displays from material specialists, engineers, architects, designers and craftspeople as a live example of serendipitous design and collaboration. Part of Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW).

HARTLEY CYCLES AND REYNOLDS TECHNOLOGY

BUILD WITH HUBS
Experiment with this newly developed connector by building structure prototypes and testing out how it can be applied to architectural and interior design.
DIGITS2WIDGETS AND PHILIP BEDFORD
The traditional craft of engine turning and one of the newest forms of design technology – 3D printing – are combined in this drop in activity. Have a go at this precise and beautiful form of decoration, and connect your engine turned piece to a specially designed 3D printed keyring.Each one is parametrically designed, so you’ll be taking a bit of unique design away with you. SCIN MATERIALS LIBRARY

Architect and Digits2Widgets Design Director, Jonathan Rowley, presents a series of applications of 3D printing applied to other processes. This challenges the media hype around 3d printing where one hears so much about “one day everything will be made this way”.

Using the 953 Gravel Road bike as a live example, Caren Hartley speaks about processes and techniques used in building bespoke bike frames. Keith Noronha of Reynolds Technology Limited introduces the importance of metallurgy in design.

Do you have a design problem that needs solving? You may find what you're looking as designers and manufacturers give short presentations about their design solutions. Part of Clerkenwell Design Week.

6 speakers. 6 min each. 6 materials. 6 material designers present one product each in superfast presentations. Handle the materials presented and ask questions from the designers afterwards and take a look around The Serendipity Studio.
